Project Description

The Project

A website for architects, engineers, and the general public.

The Alberta Masonry Council is a not-for-profit association that works to improve the longevity of architecture in Alberta. They were incorporated in 2011 and have been promoting the use of masonry ever since. Anyone can appreciate and use masonry, so their website had to accommodate a variety of user types including engineers, architects, students, the Government, sister contractors/associations, Masonry distributors and suppliers, and also the general public.

The Alberta Masonry website had to work functionally and have easily-accessible navigation for architects and engineers using the site for technical aid documents, as well as showcase a modern side of masonry for the general public. We stayed away from warm colour tones and pictures of traditional brick walls and instead used subtle background patterns paired with their fresh logo colours.

“We’ve worked with PDERAS for a number of years, on multiple projects and believe their customer service and team are second to none. PDERAS was able to create a modern website that allows our users to easily navigate to applicable resources, news articles, event details, and other Masonry information. We hope to continue working with PDERAS in the future.”

A Custom Award Submission System

That dynamically displays winners on the website.

An important aspect of the Alberta Masonry Council’s business is their quadrennial Masonry Design Awards. Contractors, Architects, and Engineers alike have the opportunity to submit photos of their work to be recognized and showcased by the Alberta Masonry Council and get judged in several different categories including Artistic Use of Masonry, Commercial Building, Educational/Institutional, Multi-Family Residential, Restoration, Single-Family Residential, and Structural Masonry.

All of the award submissions are completed right on their WordPress website, and the images and submission details get added directly to their awards database. Once the submission date passes, the Alberta Masonry Council judges log into the database and select the Award winners in each category. Once judging is complete, the Award of Excellence, Award of Merit, and all other entries are pulled dynamically from the database — using a custom shortcode— to display on their website for public viewing.
